The clutch disc from an ‘80s 2.9L Ford Bronco II is a direct fit for a 924 Turbo. Outer Diameter, spline count, and all! Made by the same brand as the OEM piece (Sachs), and unlike the Porsche part that goes for near $600, this is $33 including shipping from R ockAuto.

Love it. Good find.

Nice! How did someone even discover this, I wonder?

I would love to know how. If the guy is still on the 924 forum I’m on, I’ll ask.

$600 for a clutch? Jesus. The factory Sachs clutch in my Jeep completely came apart. For some reason it was held together with tabs rather than rivets.

Wow, t he Porsche Tax is real, I guess. Nice find!

Probably the wonders of part interchange catalogs.

I can't tell if you are joking or not :/

Oh, man.... I wish there was a deep denizen in KinjaWorld someplace to log these weird parts interchanges. I’ve been in the hunt (Audi bell-housing, similar to Porsche, but with a weird crank) for a strange Porsche-like clutch combo— I’ll run across these references, then later not be able to find the thread referencing it. Within a brand, generally there’s a forum to go look (or ask) ... but when you get into these cross-brand, especially cross-continent, interchanges? Good luck finding it in one spot.
There’s the same sort of oh-my-brain-hurts cross compatibility in the Jeep world, but somehow swapping the Toyota Aisin bell-transmission-face mount onto the readily available MA5 “GM Atlas” gearbox... which with right parts interchanges with an AX-15. There’s a golden-ticket clutch combo there... but it’s one of those things where there’s 1000 permutations that DON’T work— and ONE that does it.
Anyway, great find. Thanks!

No joke. If you know a part number, you can usually look up what other applications that part number fits.

Gotcha!

that has got to be the single redeeming characteristic of a Bronco II :)

That is a major life hack. Who knew forums were for more than shitposting?

Not only is that an excellent discovery, that old clutch is also very ready to be retired!

I would love something like that. Don’t know what I’d do with all the information, though

It only takes one of those “magic” combinations to be a life-saver. I’ve been looking for a way to mount an LL8 (GM I-6) to a manual, a combination never offered. I “think” there’s a way to do it from the VAG parts catalog.
Yeah, I’m not even sure how to organize it... but... it might come in handy someday.

Isn’t this one of those situations where you bookmark it into a specific folder for yourself? That way you can find the specific thread referencing it later?
